I'm a newbie (and not a real gardener) so kindly bear with me...

I spent a bundle on a large (5 foot) brown turkey fig tree from mail order outfit a while back. When I received it in the mail, it had no leaves on it but a few tiny (1/4") greenish bud things.

I dutifully planted it about 4-5 weeks ago and have been watching it closely every day. Unfortunately, the buds have not grown at all, although they haven't lost their green color. The trunk has, at best, turned a slightly more green hue (although the change is minimal).

Per a local gardener's suggestion, I gently scraped away a bit of the trunk's bark and saw that there is some green underneath.

What are the prospects for my plant? This weekend, I just about died when i went to the local garden store and saw a 3 foot plant with 10+ figs on it (for half the price of what i paid)!
