I had ordered 3 peonies from Parkland Perennials last fall. The roots were huge. They are growing well and have quite a few flower buds on already this spring. I highly recommend this place. I plan to get a couple more from him this fall.

I have also been looking at Ferncliff Gardens in BC. There is one peony in particular that I would like to get from there.

I have also been looking into peonies that are not the run of the mill peonies. I plan to order some from Parkland Perennials for this fall, and also Adelmans out of the USA for two that I can't find in Canada (old faithful and chocolate soldier).

I bought my first ones at Home Depot. I think they cost around $10 each. I bought Sarah Bernhart and Monsiour de la Marne (spelling?). M. De la Marne is my favorite not only for the colour, a deep fuscia, but it is very fragrant. I bought them 2 years ago. Marg

I think I already have all the ones you can get at HD and Walmart - I actually picked up 'Bowl of Beauty' at HD this spring which I'm pretty excited about. Unfortunately the box stores only sell small roots and they can take a couple of years to bloom. I guess that's the difference between $7 and $30 for a peony.
