Lucky you.....our walmart doesn't have much left. They didn't seem to have as much variety this year as they did last year either. I think I only bought one plant from them this year.

I heard that ours has their plants on for half price, and i'm heading in tonight to see if some will follow me home. :) Nowhere around here has million bells anymore, so i'm hoping that the cuttings i took actually grow now. Some of them look okay. I really wanted some big clumps, though. And right now, of course!

EVERYTHING today (Saturday) is now 50cents. We bought a hundred pots of lilies all with lots of buds, 20 astilbes, gallon pots of all types of annuals... big gallon pots of lantana, Martha Washington geraniums, double dianthus etc. Various perennials... We made 3 trips with the Jeep and filled it to bursting and all for less than $100 total. Everything was in excellent conditions and tons to choose from. Our garden is already bursting over but who can resist. I did resist the gallon pots of clematis for 50cents...

Oops. I meant Friday.

Huh. Our walmart had no perennials in sight. I did get a couple of wave petunias, some jalapeno peppers and two containers of stocks for $10 (including a bag of soil, actually). My daughter bought some petunias for the planters where she works, and some dichondra and - shoot, i can't remember the name of it, but i have some too, another thing with silvery foliage and red flowers (sorry - senior moment!). They had some clematis and roses, but nothing i was interested in.

You guys are so lucky to have a Walmart in town, 100 pots of Lilies and 20 Astilbes, if you run out of room, phone me Alpiner ;)
They're building one in our town and hopefully it should be open around Fall time, I wonder if they'll have plants on sale at that time. LOL

I was in the Brandon store yesterday and the only deals they had were roses for $5 and didn't have any that I was interestd in. I don't know why more stores don't just put everything on for .50 cents late in the season. Seems like most of them would rather throw the plants out than put them on sale.

"Seems like most of them would rather throw the plants out than put them on sale." Totally! My local WM has all their perennials still priced at $6 each. Some are long since dead. I do like to go to WM at the end of the year and rack up on all the cheap garden accessories they can't kill or throw out though! I got the same obelisk as you Laurie (in the projects thread, I think) for $3 too!

I went to our local Walmart looking for some end of season roses. They had them on for $6.00 which I thought was a good buy until I had a close look and saw all the aphids. No thanks!!! I left them there.

I guess when they decide to clear stuff out and at what price depends on the individual store. Stuff marked down at one store was regular price at others. This year, it seems like walmart didn't bring in the loads of plants like other years, maybe they didn't want to be stuck with alot at the end.

I did see a Topaz Jewel rose at the store in Selkirk, MB, but it was regular price.

I was thinking that too, Glen, that they didn't have as many plants this year as in other years. And it was ordinary stuff, too - petunias, impatiens, geraniums, etc. In fact, most of the places around here didn't have much out of the ordinary this year. I wonder why.

Never thought about checking to see if our Walmart had Topaz Jewel - she's on my wish list, but when i decided to get Champlain this year, everything else vanished from my mind! :) (Yeah, yeah, i know - what else is new?)

Here Walmart ran out of everything! It seems that this is the year for people to redo their yards around here! WOW I never saw so much sod cut out of borders and the middle of a yard! Needless to say, walmart here hasn't bothered to put things on sale. Heck, even the nurseries around here ended up looking quite thin! People are buying plants at the local farmer's market from people like me who started too much! LOL!

Keep an eyes out for the unusual items about now. Many suppliers offer slow-selling, less common plants at reduced prices to retailers. Our Walmat, Canadian tire, etc, have had some neat things in lately. Among the sale items were pots of toad lilies, various lantanas, passion vines, rarer peonies and so on. Earlier in the season Wally world only had 'usuals'. As the season winds down, however, every so often they get in a few flats of lewisia, gentian acaulis and other gems.

Not Walmart but I did managed to get these plants at clearout sales price today from Extra Foods, although not 50¢ like some of you were lucky to find, they ranged from 94¢ - $2.94 for 13cm pots.
