Hacking out some Forsythia

Forsythia is so borderline hardy here it's not funny. I have one against the south wall of the house that does fine but only flowers below the snowline. (It has flowery ankles, LOL)

There are two others in the front yard that die back almost completely every winter, then shoot out giant watersprouts that grow quickly and soon fill out the whole bush again. They never bloom though and they're starting to sucker at the roots pretty badly. They look awful. I just don't think they're the right shrub for me. I hacked one most of the way down last night.

Anyone else have good results with Forsythia?
