Shauna, what variety of beets are those? They look great, we harvested some Detroits and had them last night, I would like to grow some of yours though.

Anybody grow kale? Took the row cover off yesterday to discover huge kale plants, I read that they are better tasting after a frost but the plants are really big right now. We have never grown kale before. Our rutabagas and turnips look great as well, for some reason we can really grow root veggies in our soil.

White beets? Well, I'll be darned!

I saw the seeds in the T & M catalogue and just had to try them. They're called 'Albina Vereduna'. They also have one called 'Burpee's Golden Globe', which is (duh) golden yellow. I might try it next year. Someone here was trying 'Chioggia', which have red and white rings when they are sliced. How are they?

Wouldn't you know it? When I went to get the butter out to set the table, I found out we were out of butter. Near catastrophe. We never run out of butter in our house. So we ate them, just plain and they were still good. I really missed the butter on the tops, though. Note to self: Go get butter today and never run out of it again.

We grew the yellow beets a few years ago. Don't can those things - they look like ghost beets! LOL No one wanted to eat them!
