I guess it's not a commonly grown iris. I didn't get an answer on the iris forum, either. Maybe I'm just impatient, but I wanted to stop looking at the catalogue and just make a decision! :-)

I ended up ordering a bulb. If I mulch it well, it may just come up next spring. Breck's is selling it on page 37 of the fall catalogue. They say it's a zone 3 plant, so who am I to argue with the experts? (cough, cough)

One bulb is $17.99 (ouch) but, luckily, I subscribe to the right gardening magazines, so I had a coupon for $25--just enough to cover the cost of the bulb plus shipping. If it doesn't grow, I'm not out any $$--although I COULD have ordered 50 grape hyacinths that I KNOW would have grown next year. But what's the fun in that?!?! (I checked other sources for this iris. Fraser's Thimble Farms has it for $16 and change; for once, Breck's pricing is not over-the-top. However, TF does not indicate what zone the iris grows in. Wouldn't matter, since TF is ultra-conservative with their zone designations, anyway.)

If you don't have a Breck's catalogue, you need to type in the product code to have a look at the iris. For some reason, it's not on their website. It's number 70204.

My fingers are already crossed that I can get this plant to thrive (and not just survive), and I don't even have it, yet!
