Just for fun

Did you know that a bloom pod from a crepe myrtle can be Granny's purse? Take a bloom pod(not opened yet) from the cluster and put it between the forefinger and thumb. Say "this is Granny's purse" and smash on the end that was attached to the cluster. Out pops Granny's hankie, gently pull it out and there is gold under the hankie. My Grandmother showed this to me when I was young. I delight in showing it to other people. If you show it to young children, they will probably strip the pods playing with Granny's purse.haha Have fun

Oh, what fun!
It's a good thing I didn't know about this when the Butterfly Fairy visited this weekend.
There wouldn't be a bud left.

I had to leave my buds on the tree to make photos.
Here's Grandmother's Purse

Here's Grandmother's Purse with the
hanky pulled part way out
and gold spilling.

Sweet! Two of my crapes are blooming and one is just starting to bud. I'll have to give this a try. Thanks for the smile this morning. : )

Nell, love your visuals! You are always so helpful. : )

Ok, I went out and tried this. I can see how the grandkids would love bursting these pods. It's addicting! lol!

Now about those spent pods with little hairy things sticking out after they bloom. Kinda made me think about the handkerchief after grandpa got his hands on it. ; )
