You made a splint! Necessity is the mother of invention and genius is revealed in many ways.
I've had large tomato plants split at branch joints but they were too heavy to splint so I let them be and they scarred over the split and continued producing.

I have done similar with gardeners/florist tape over bent snapped tomato branches, it works! Nice job for not giving up on the pepper plant, jay and finding a solution!

Years ago when I lived in Baltimore I repaired a broken branch on a basswood tree using pipe insulation and duct tape. The neighbors asked me if the tree had sprung a leak. ha ha ha... But it worked and the branch healed itself. The healed part looked strangely like a peace sign so we called it the peacewood tree. Thanks for triggering that memory!

I broke my kiwi in half and taped it back up with masking tape...I just took the masking tape off this week and the branch is healed :-) I like the splint idea though...will remember for next time.

When it comes to cherokee purple (are they unusually susceptible to breaking in the wind?) I just stuck the broken branches in a pot.

Turns out, I salvaged cherokee purple from my rather infamous murphy's oil soap massacre. I've just eaten my first cherokke purple from the rooted limbs _ yum.

Then again, I have learned there are limits to repairing nature. My dad once tied a chain around a giant mulberry after it split in half in a storm.

I was just a kid. The chain held for several years, and the tree seemed to just grow into its new chained condition. Then, in another storm, the chain broke. We came out to find the tree split down the original split, but now down on the grownd _ OK, no big deal, we saved that tree for several years. But... We never found a single link from that chain.

Later dad told me he feared that it had broken with some significant force and had probably shot links in many directions at some pretty dangerous (like speeding bullet) speeds because the tree had been growing against and adding pressure to the chain for years.

He was impressed that he hadn't managed to accidentally maim or mangle one of his children with that save-a-tree idea with the chain.
