LoL my poppy is a floppy too. Hunnerbun, your Blaze is new right? I'm interested to know how it over-winters for you. The previous owner of my house (Grandma) had a massive one for years and years (like over 15 years for sure) and one year it just up and died. It was great until then though.

Unnamed but still nice. I got these from Canadian Tire and all they said was Pink Tiger Lilies. Started with 3 - they are reproducing fairly rapidly.

The little planters I put over the bare patch where the tulips were. That's a Tiny Tim cherry tomato blooming its tiny head off with sweet potato vines. And little Rotten looking to pee on Sonia.

My Lychnis Coronaria is in full bloom..I quite enjoy it. Eeverything is pretty new to me as our garden is only in it's 3rd ever summer. I'll be posting some pics today.

Everyone's pictures are gorgeous! I love the Zulu Prince too. Trouble is, i winter sowed some seeds for that and only one sprouted and it's only a couple of inches high. Darn!

LA hybrid lily "Donau" looks very much like one I got in a mix of LA hybrids. I didnÂt keep track of names etc.
The first time mine bloomed I was disappointed because it was supposed to be fragrant and I couldnÂt smell anything. I had to go into camp that night and took that bloom with me. That night the fragrance was nearly more than I could handle.

Beautiful photos everyone! I can't wait for my Goat's Beard to mature, they do look like fireworks when in bloom! Mine is only 2 years old, how long does it take to get the huge blooms like yours Laurie? IÂm definitely going to look for Buck Roses next year after seeing your photo....I believe Cedar Hollow in BC sells them, they sure look like the T's. Gorgeous!!!

Janice, thatÂs right I traded you some seeds for the L. chalcedonica 'Dusky Salmon', itÂs the same height as the regular red species ;)

Ang, I also have Venidium 'Zulu Prince' blooming, but I deadheaded yesterday. I was told that they wouldn't bloom for us due to a short season but I've had quite a few blooms already and lots more coming. Plant them, Marcia. Mine were tiny W/S seedlings but they seemed to grow fast for me once I got them in the ground. They're very pretty.

Great photos Shauna, I see you're getting the hang of your camera! Are you playing around with the manual controls yet? I'm still only at the point and shoot stage. Love the blue of your Convolvulus 'Blue Ensign'. I'll have to look for that one.

Sharon, that Goat's Beard is 7 years old and is huge, 5' tall and about 3' in diameter and the bees go wild for it!
Last year I got 3 Buck roses from Pickering. They accidently sent my order twice, so I ended up with 6. Both of the Hawkeye Belle made it through winter, only 1 of Folksinger, which will be blooming any day now, and none of the Prairie Star, which I didn't like as much as the other 2 anyway. Hmm...maybe it sensed bad vibes from me and decided it wasn't worth coming out of dormancy?

Ian, I just ran out and smelled Donau, and you're right, very nice scent, not too strong in the morning. I never thought to even try it, thinking that only orientals had a fragrance. Thanks, now I have to go around and smell my other lilies too!

Ummmmm confused.... what I call goat's beard is a yellow wildflower in the sunflower family - that's Astilbe you have there right, Laurie? I'm guessing I didn't know the common name for it unless I'm wrong about it being Astilbe.

Oh and happy news - the red astilbe I bought at the same time as the Edge of Brightness fiasco, which was reported dead of spider mites, has been found alive and well, buried under my rampant Nanking Cherry. Joy!

Shauna those white/bluish reverse Osteospermums are my fave! They are so BRIGHT! And they look great with your sweet William.

Yes, I would love to trade some lupin seeds. I only have 1 other plant that will bloom this year and it is just starting to poke up a stalk. I don't know, yet, what color it is. As soon as it starts to come a bit more, I will place a bag over this current bloom to stop any cross pollination, right?

So much to learn, so much to learn. . . LOL

I have fallen in love with these white, white, so bright osteos, too. They are electrifying. Such a focal point in any area. These might be the only ones I plant from now on. I'm not enjoying my yellows and peaches as much this year.

The convolvulus was a "surprise". I bought them (gasp!!!!) at a little country greenhouse near Sangudo and when I got them home, the tag was missing. Of course, I had bought a few things and couldn't remember what these were. They were probably marked Morning Glory, because at that point, mine hadn't come up. They sure are a beautiful blue and spreading very nicely.

Northspruce, sorry for the confusion. No, this goat's beard is not astilbe. I believe the type I have is Aruncus dioicus 'Plumosus'. I could be wrong on the cultivar, but it's definitely an Aruncus species. Anyway, it likes the same kind of conditions that astilbe's do, but it's way bigger!

Kat3, in your pics what you think is Russian Sage is actually Salvia, perhaps Blue Queen?

Northspruce, the Goatsbeard being referred to is Aruncus dioicus, a good shade perennial but also will deal with a sunnier spot. Here's a pic of mine, hell bent on taking over everything in it's path this year. These plants were planted in 1999.

Pudge, your delphinium patch - wow! It's almost as big as my whole yard! I looove delphiniums except mine are not enjoying their coating of PM this summer.

About the goat's beard, I guess that's another example of commom names being so confusing. I got to see the wildflower Goat's beard, Tragopogon dubius, on one of our wildflower expeditions. It certainly bears no resemblance to the perennial aruncus dioicus!

I get to see goat's beard every day in my lawn at work ;-) I do the grass cutting so there are a fair amount of daisies and goat's beards that get mowed around, and needless to say it never gets sprayed for weeds Hee hee I think it's one of the prettier wildflowers around here - bad about the big dandelion fluff thing after.

I have several Aruncus dioicus and wouldn't ya know....they are all females. The upside, I suppose, is no reseeding to deal with but I would like the slightly showier male plant. And I wouldn't mind some seedlings!

Is anyone lucky enough to have both male and female plants?

The picture you posted of your Scabiosa looks similar to mine. Hopefully it should be blooming soon and then we can compare. I thought I had the name right, then I looked on the internet. Not even close to my book. I am so disapointed, another book with the wrong information again. At least I didn't pay for it, MIL did, that helps a bit.

My Scabiosa are a lot like the "Butterfly Blue" in the A-Z Encyclopedia of Garden Plants now that the flowers have opened up a bit more.

My Scabiosa hasn't bloomed yet, it's slowly coming. The A-Z Encyclopedia of Garden Plants was the book I was referring to. I was thinking that my plant was Scabiosa caucasica 'Clive Greaves' The flower centre looks more like that one then 'Butterfly Blue'. Should be only a few more days and then I'll know for certain.
