Very Dark Green Fig?

Hi, Iv got another fig question for ya! This week Im going to take cuttings or dig up part of this huge fig tree. A guy my hubby knows is selling the old home place & said we can have the huge fig (the tree is going to be bulldozed down anyway :( . He sis the the fig is different then any he has ever seen, they are a very dark green even when ripe. Is that enough info to go on, maybe u know family this tree is in? Im so excited Im hopeing someone might have some info on this fig tree. Next week Ill post pictures of the leaves & any figs. Thanks so much!

Thanks Martin! The fig tree is very large/old he said & said was loaded with figs (I hope they will be ripe while were there). Ill take tons of cuttings as I always like to do :) Now I have come across 4 very old & VERY interesting un-named trees this month! Last Sundays find is my favorite WOW! Iv got dozens upon dozens of cuttings potted from each great find. I plan on keeping a few of each kind & maybe if anyone is interested in swapping some of them for others figs or other fruit plants. Anything I have left over Im going to give out to people in town here who would like a free tree. Ill give a description of the figs & where they came from & maybe get others interested in figs too :)

    mastino,

you might try taking a "cutting" of a large diameter limb that branches. I found a fig tree that had been heavily pruned this spring and took a section of the tree that was about 4" in diameter, put it in a 3 gallon pot and it is doing quite nicely.

WOW That is a GREAT piece of information! Thanks mrhappy, Ill do that! Ill try to take the whole tree (in big pieces :) The property is going to be commercialized, everything is going to get bulldozed so Ill bring the trailer & chainsaw. Hopefully the figs will be ripe so I can let u guys know what they're like (Ill take my camera also). Thanks again!

Hi Mastino (I received your cuttings btw thanks!) Dark green fig thats very large sounds alot like the fig tree that my relatives and father have in Italy. I haven't seen any like it either and it too is very dark green with some slight tinges of purple/brown when fully ripe. Would be funny if they were one and the same.

I should probably take a drive out there you arent too far away anyhow!
