Found one up in the daylily bed last night. They are buggers! Fed him to the magpies.

Found more tonight...stayed out as long as I could before the mosquitoes drove me crazy. I also found tiny slugs.

I have wood chips surrounding some of my hostas, so they're usually okay. I did find a few cutworms in the vegetable garden when weeding last week - so that's where my lettuce went! >:( They're bird food too!

I'm pretty sure they ate three of my four baby cucumber plants this spring. Next year I will remember my mom's trick of sticking a matchstick in the dirt alongside the stem so they can't wrap around. It sounds stupid but it works.

My hosta bed is an inch deep in pine needles and so far it seems to be keeping the hole-makers off.

I went through my winter sowing containers yesterday and found several of the little *$^%$^#*(#! And this morning i found one in the container on the deck. I'm sure there must be more than one in there since it's a big container but that's all i could find. Frustrating!

I'm finding a lot of little slugs too. I hope they like cement! :>

I'm still finding these destructive worms in my garden. These are the climbing variety of cutworm. They emerge from the soil or mulch in the late evening and do all their damage during the night. I went out with my flashlight and wearing a bug shirt last night and picked off quite a few. I hope I'm making progress. They don't seem fussy about what they eat, but are really making a mess of the hosta. They've mowed down petunias, munched on dahlias, and other annuals. But the annuals will grow new leaves. The hosta will be disfigured all season.

I've dug around in the soil and found a few that i've tossed out. Some are big fat juicy ones, and it's very obvious why! :-/

I'm battling with small slugs too!!!! Got up with hubby this morning and was outside with coffee in hand to pick slugs off the lettuce, swiss chard and even the green beans. Hate them. Let the chicken in the veggie garden last fall thinking they would get most of them but not. Will be out tonight and tomorrow morning before they start doing heavy damage. Cheryl

The slugs are everywhere. Daylilies and Iries are invaded too. Errrrrr. They gross me out.
