I was mainly wanting to know what town it is. I do realize that it is North of me!!

A zone is not a town. It is an area . The biggers the numbers the warmer it is and as the numbers grow smaller it is colder.Just google AG zones for a map.

schoolb1, the map that Gil mentioned is really good and it seems to be the most recent, but its also based on more information than the USDA zone map. I think they both used to be based on lowest temperatures but now the canadian map is based on plant survival data as well and the zones got changed around.

If I remember right from past conversations on here the US and Canadian zone numbers don't line up...does anyone else remember how that goes? I did a search but didn't come up with it.

the zones really vary in some areas due to different influences like the ocean, snowfall amounts or mountains. I think my neighbor is a whole zone warmer than me, she is little higher up in the valley where the air is usually warmer and has a good aspect. She misses alot of frosts that some of us close to the river get. not that the map shows that much detail.

This link shows the USDA hardiness map...it seems to include Canada, but won't be the same as the updated map Gil linked.

For microclimates especially in places like Alaska, the indicator trees list might be more useful. Indicator trees are on that same link I posted before.

I must not have asked my question the correct way by viewing some of the posts.I am aware that a zone is not a town,but by knowing which town, I can look at a map of Canada and see just how far north that zone 1 is!Sorry for any confusion that I seem to cause, Judy
