Fig tree growth problem

20 years ago

Almost 3 yrs ago I planted two fig trees, large purple variety. They are the same size today as then. Each yr they get large green leaves and bear a few figs, but have not grown in size. They get sunlight and water. This year I tried fertilizer stakes around each. I live in southern mississippi. Anyone have any suggestions?
