Yes, Bee, you have to learn that on this forum certain words are not permitted at certain times of the year. For instance, you can't say s*** (you know, that white stuff that falls from the sky?) until at least November (unless your ground is covered with it and you're really mad!). F**** is another bad one. A definite no-no. In spite of the fact that we had a light one the other night. Well, actually, that makes it a dirty word for sure!

My sympathies, Bee. We're not ready for this. :(

Man...I'm not ready for this!...some veggies are just in prime now and my honey bees had fun in the alfalfa. I listen to the radio and supposedly Sunday morning is going to be baaaad!
This means it's over for honey bees collecting nectar for this year, it's over!...bad bad bad!

Well darn! My cucumbaloupes may not ripen fully! I'll be so disappointed.

I'd saved seed from a Heritage Canteloupe I purchased from Sobey's summer of 2007, because it was so good. I now have these 'things' that appear to be some sort of muskmelon, one little one had stopped growing and the outside of it dried and matured into what appeared to be a tiny canteloupe. So I picked it out of curiousity, the inside was still green. So I tasted it.....similar to...cucumber. No more comments.

I'm holding my hoe high to the heavens, willing the weather gods to extend our summer by at least 30 more days, if just to make up for whatever that was we got back in June!

Yes, summer is all too short isn't it! The corn still needs a bit longer to mature and the flowers are in their peak ... I don't want to see them go just yet! Heck, it was only like six weeks ago that the canola crops were in full bloom! The nights are now much longer and I dread the thought of another long cold and dark W----R.

Because our growing season is so brief, I'm really getting into frost hardy plants and lots of evergreens.

Some of the roofs I have seen white this morning, Zucchinis and Cucumbers got fried!
Not a killer one jet, hope it stays like this for a while, actually, it supposed to get even colder soon.

You're on the right track Terry, I love my ever greens even more when the sn.....w falls.

We got it again last night - third time this week. So far it's been light, and I've just lost a few cucumber leaves that were sticking out from under the blankets. I'll have to check tonight and see how the marigolds and beans are doing - not that I care about the beans anymore, I have enough, but they're a good indicator.

So far I'm still lucky, Sharon. For all the white on stuff, there isn't much real damage yet. Sounds like we'll probably get it again tonight.

Well, we finally got it for real Tuesday night. All the tenders are gone, but I did get three extra weeks after our light ones, so I'm pretty happy about that. I thought my wild cucumber vine echinocystislobata would be gone too, but it's still happily covering compost piles and climbing up poplars. Does anyone know how hardy it is? I think it started blooming too late for me to get any seeds, but it sure is nice. Another question - when should I be bringing in my alstromeria?

We had a slight one last week but i had saved anything i wanted to save and taken some cuttings. It must have been really slight because there were still some ears of corn out there last night when i was picking the tomatoes that had so far refused to ripen on the vine. I picked the squash too - i'm not covering anything anymore!

We only had a light *F* the other night, looks like the Dahlias and Amaranthus got it.

Connie the Cucumber vine is an annual, it will self seed, just let it be and you will have tons of it growing next year. Kind of weedy IME, I have one growing right up a crab apple tree.

If you don't see any seeds, I can send you some.

Thanks, Sharon. I'll take you up on that seed offer. I've been watching and watching, but my cucumber vine started blooming so late I don't think it will have a chance to make seeds. I think it's maybe in too shady a spot, but it sure grew well, and covered what I wanted to hide.

I guess it's official here - it was -4° at our house this morning. Yesterday i picked some bouquets and the last roses. This morning there were some wonderful patterns on some dark foliage, but i was on my way to work and no time to take pictures. Too bad.
