:)

Mastino,
Wow! That is some big fig tree! Is it in NC?

Peg

In my neighborhood there is a 40+ feet tall 'Celeste' tree growing as a single trunk, but I do not remember where it is. There is a gentleman who use to have an annual plant sale in his backyard, the 'Celeste' is in the yard behind his. He has not had the signs out for his plant sale in a few years, and I don't know how else to find him.

Following is an old photograph of some large Mission (Francisciana) Trees from Hilgardia, Volume 23, No. 11, Plate 5. Notice the individual at the base of the trees in the white shirt and dark trousers who is dwarfed by the massive trees! (The picture is the one at the top, not the bottom picture, which illustrates some unusual nodal swellings on a fig tree.

WOW thanks everyone!

Mastino,

I cant see the picture. What kind of soil is the fig tree in? red carolina clay or sand? Im in Garner and have my figs in pots because im afraid they wouldnt make it in the clay. I might just plant them in the ground if your fig tree is in the clay.

Hi arigato,
We go by your neck of the woods now & then shopping, have you been we to Agra supply :) Email me & Ill send you a better picture of the tree mastinokennels@rtelco.net Anyway this must be a very hardy verity of fig its huge (Id be happy to send ya a cutting). The fig tree is in red clay its been there for years & is pretty much totally on its own. I dont know the verity & I haven't tasted the figs, when they ripen Ill let u guys know how they taste & take some close up pictures of them too. Im not sure when they ripen but there is literally thousands of upon thousands of figs on this tree. I was out this weekend & came across another huge fig tree, I didnt have my camera but I did stop & asked them more about their tree & ask them for a cutting :) Thanks everyone for all the great pictures , really enjoyed it!

Following is a version of the picture of the large mission trees previously posted on this thread with an arrow pointing to the man at the base of the two huge mission fig trees.
