Are the plants in the beds edible? Also what kind of ants do you have?

There is very little in the beds as of now, but everything in them will be edible. As far as type I am not sure, they aren't big so not carpenter ants, but they don't look like fire ants which I get on occasion. They are small and black, no other real discerning marks on them.

I've used boiling water on ant nests in my edible garden when nothing was planted there. Don't know if this will work for you.

Just wondering, what's wrong with ants? ours do no damage, do yours?

They bite when you put your hand in the soil, no idea if they will eat my vegetables or not.

Ants can be pretty hard on the worm population too. I usually just sprinkle a few granuals of Amdro ant bait near the problem site. It does the job every time for me but my ants are always a red or fire ant type.

Different kinds of ants go for different kinds of baits. Some like sugar while others like grease. You could experiment with a little boric acid mixed with various baits to see what they go for.

My worst ant in bed problem is in my blueberries. The soil is lots of peat and pine bark and they make monster hills in it. I am going to pull out the bushes then torch the whole bed with my weed dragon,raking out the hills. What else can you do?
