I was in Regina yesterday and picked up some of the bulbs at Costco, too. 100 Allium Purple Sensation (2 bags of 50 @ $11.89) and a bag of 50 tulips (same price) - Darwin Daydream. There was so much more I wanted to throw into the cart but I restrained myself.

This spring I was so pleased with the Purple Sensation that I had planted throughout the rock garden. So I'm thinking I'll continue with them throughout the rest of the front yard. The tulips - who knows ... they look to be my favourite shade of peachy-orange.

100 Purple Sensation will be spectacular, Pudge! I can't wait to see your pictures!

They didn't seem to last very long this year, just about a week and they were going to seed already. Too bad. But the plants held up well after they finished blooming - last year they were blown over at the end of June - and most of them are still poking up out of a chrysanthemum plant. I like the look of them like that.

You probably will use them in dried arrangements, won't you?

Yes, I do dry them and so I picked them quite soon after they finished blooming. I've been reading that they also make a good fresh cut flower, lasting up to 2 weeks in a vase, so some may get used for that next year as well, depending on when they bloom.

Wow is that ever cheap PUdge, 100 Purple Sensations are going to look for sure spectacular! Here I paid $12.97 for 12 and I thought that was a good deal from Botanus! :(

My friend from work goes into Edmonton quite a bit and has a membership card, maybe I'll ask her to pick me some up. ;)

I made a Costco run as well. I bought 4 bags:

50 Allium - Purple Sensation
80 Crocus Mixed 3 varieties - Jeanne D'Arc, Pickwick, Flower Record
50 Daffodil - Salome
50 Daffodil - Tete-A-Tete

When should I be planting? It's been pretty warm here - is it a bit too early?

Susan,

Put your fall bulbs in now. You want them to put down their roots asap. They need the extablished root system to help them get through the first winter.

BTW, plant your daffodils as close to your house as possible. They will bloom better for you.

I wish we had a costco here. I've been visiting Lowe's and Home Depot and did get a bag of 50 daffodils and a bag of 100 grape hyacinths to place along my paths.

I need to mark where all my bulbs are next Spring when they bloom so I know where to plant more of them. ha ha. I meant to do that this year and time flew by and unfortunately I did not get that project accomplished.

ladylotus, would you have happened to have taken a picture of the flowerbed when in bloom? That would help you now as to where the bulbs are that you have planted there from previous years.

My friend did manage to find me only 1 bag (50) of the Allium 'Purple Sensation' the other day, however her DH was going to another Costco store today, hopefully he'll have better luck finding me another bag, I also asked him to pick me up some Darwins if available ;)

I'm so pleased that my friends' DH did find me another bag of Allium 'Purple Sensation', as well 2 bags of
Triumph Tulips Shirley/Passionale Mix (100).

Next year I will have to remember not to order from the mail order catalogues, Costcos is way way cheaper!

I am still hoping to find single early tulips at Costco. Since the coupon starts today, I think I will go check to see if they have any tonight.

They had Darwins, and triumphs here...but I want the earliest blooming if I can find them.

My passionale tulips are blue.....well the pic looks really blue.....but I really like purple tulips and I suspect that they will be purple.....so that should work well. I hope! LOL.

Thanks Sharon, I hope so. I wasn't able to find exactly what I wanted so my plans had to change and adapt a bit to the bulbs that were available. But I think it will still work out ok. We'll see come spring.

Yes I have grown the Hyacinthus before. They usually only last a couple of years....then you don't get the full pretty flower stems....so need to be replaced.

No more bulbs but the lure of the $3 coupon pulled me back to Costco to buy the bearded irises I resisted on my first trip. I got 3 bags of 6 rhizomes:

- 6 mixed
- 3 Avalon Sunset & 3 Champagne Waltz
- 3 Mother Earth & 3 Hurricane Lamp

Went out in the cold this morning (only 7 degrees...) to plant before the rain started. No watering in required - it is raining now and there is no sun in the forecast until Sunday :(

Ooooppppppssssssssssss.......100 Mickey Mouse tulips jumped into my cart...as I was shopping. Don't have a clue how that happened. They are pretty though dark yellow with red flames.

Well I put mine into the ground today. I hope its not too late in the season, but if it is there is nothing I can do about it now. I put in 40 Tulipa Tarda, 48 Allium Unifolium, 3 Allium Gladiator and 24c Allium Caeruleum.

Cross your fingers for me that they'll be ok!
I also managed to get the last 25 bags of mulch down just as it was starting to thunder! So I didn't have to water either!

Sierra, 100 Mickey Mouses!!! Were those ones from Costcos too, I love those, that wave of colour is going to blast your socks off next spring!

I planted all the late bulbs yesterday in an area together..but I was 16 short so had to buy a few more.

10 queen of the night, and
6 Darwin Oxfords Elite.

I'm not sure of the Oxfords Elite blooming time....but hoping they will bloom the same time as the others planted in that area.

How are their Spring bulbs, do they sell a wide selection of those too?

And how much for a yearly membership? I shouldnÂt rely on my friend to do my errands, so I'm thinking of buying one ;)

If I were to buy a membership, would it be good for Edmonton and Saskatoon, all Costco in Canada?

Sharon, how can I email you.....I couldn't find how to send you mail...

Costco puts out racks of bulbs quite often and the racks very from time to time. So if you are there today and get what ever....it could be totally different in a couple of days or next week. Thats how I got such a variety of bulbs this fall.

The Spring bulbs vary as well. Glads, freesias, dahlias, anemones, elephants ears, lilies..and more....it varies from year to year as well.

Should I have wrote Mickey Mice haha.

Sierra, you will love Oxford's Elite, they are my best tulips. I will have recorded at home when they bloom... seems to me they are a mid-season bloomer. Mid-tulip-season I should say, LOL.

Love the Mickey Mice, wonder where they got that name. I was imaging two round, black petals. LOL.

I also used to have 'Passionale' tulips but I didn't move them with me. They were a very nice rich purple and not blue at all. I would say more pinky even. Oh here, I found a picture of them.

oooohhhh I love that colour, I will be very happy with those. I would have like the blue colour in the pic too but I think purple tulips are the prettiest.

I only got 6 Oxford's Elite, so I guess it won't matter that much if they bloom earlier, than the rest. Seems to me Queen of the night blooms really late...so they will probably be out of sinc. Oh well, I tried. LOL!

When I got the Mickey Mice home and realized the name...I wondered where they came up with that name as well. LOL

Walmart had little boxes of crocuses, 12 for $2.98. I bought one of 'Pickwick' and one of 'Jumbo Mix'. Can you believe I have never planted crocuses before?

C'mon you guys...get with it.... Whats with the paltry 100 and 200 bulbs? I just watched Martha Stewart and she said she has been planting 12,000 Daffs and other bulbs....sheesh, and we were thinking we were planting lots...LOL

She and her team of cabana boys, i'm sure! :)
