Your question about the glads confuses me.......I had some glads with 2 spikes on this year, but they both came up at the same time. Some of the large ones that had only one spike had a much smaller spike comming out the side of the original spike......but they just bloomed right around the same time as the top flowers......never really heard of cutting glads off to get another spike....

I don't dead head sweetpeas......I just let them go till the frost gets them.

I hadn't heard of rebloom on glads either - have you had this happen before Laurie?

Not having F**** by Oct is gonna be scary... my fingies are crossed for you... toes too. If they don't get frozen the sweet peas might well still bloom for you.

Pheeww, I'm glad to hear that the sweetpeas don't need deadheading. What a job that would be, as there are hundreds of flowers!
As for glads, I usually cut them to bring indoors (about the only flowers that I do this to) and 9 times out of 10, the bulb will send up a new flower spike. It's usually not as large as the first, but still nice. The glads that I planted especially for the wedding, even though I planted them quite late, beginning of June, have already started to bloom. My dilema is whether to cut the blooming spike off now and hope for the next spike to be blooming for Oct 1 or to let the first spike flower and hope that there will still be some flowers left at the top of the spike in a month (kinda leary on the last scenario working though).

I have quite a few blankets and tarps in case I need it. My mom keeps reminding me that last year the first killing f......was sept 30, so maybe we'll get lucky! This is for my sister's wedding and we're all thinking that if we can pull this off, it'll be a miracle. lol In addition to the sweetpeas and glads, we have asters, dahlias, oriental lilies and 4 large urns of annuals, all in red and white. Everything was planted late specifically for the date......it all sounded like a good idea at the time :0)
