It's Raining!!! Hurrah!!

Finally! After what seemed like a month of no rain (and my flowers looking on the verge of ashes) the skies have opened up and smiled upon us! Since last night we've had nothing but that slow rain that soaks into everything deeply. The lowly Echinacea purpureas are perky and some newly transplanted kiddos are getting well loved.

How happy am I!? Enough to stay on my front porch all day, pouring through garden magazines while watching my two little boys run amuck amidst the rain and driveway puddles. Drat that it will be 100 degrees tomorrow, but I'm loving today!!!!!

    Hi Sandl,
We started getting a very soft light rain here beginning
around 1:30 am, don't know when it quit exactly, but was
very happy to have what little rain we did in NW KS as well.

Aaaaahhhh! Send some down this way! My water bill is outrageous! Glad your boys enjoyed it...and glad I'm not the only mom that lets her kids play in the rain! LOL!

    Drought last summer.
Too much damn rain this summer....or at least yesterday. We got 6" of rain yesterday in under 2 hours. It was nuts. Total downpour. Streets flooded, gutters backed up, water in the basement.
    My garden is completely flopped.
    Good times.

    What's rain? :-(

The extended weather forecast for this area predicts no drought relief, until at least October. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Next time it rains, I will be joining the neighborhood kids running amuck amidst the rain and driveway puddles. lol

    Good for you!!!!!

I am taking reservations on the ARK we're starting to build.
Everytime I go to the garden I come back 2 inches taller with mud on my boots. I've never had to wear my high barn boots in July before. My yard squishes.

It's been raining here, too, since Wednesday night. Of course, I watered for several hours Wednesday. Go figure. We had some minor flooding yesterday and this morning from the heavy rain. But now it's slowed to a steady drizzle. Yay!

Wish I could send some to those of you that need it, too.

We got a good soaker rain here in Central Oklahoma, too. I watered all day yesterday, but that is okay. It will just soak down deeper and that is what really is needed for the plants to pull the nutrients out of the soil.

Some areas got some really bad 70+ MPH straight winds last night doing quite a bit of damage. Not here...just the much desired and terribly needed rain, for which I am truely thankful on both accounts.

It was cool and balmy this morning. The rain refreshed the earth and cleansed the air and washed all the dust off the trees and plants. It smells so good and feels great. It is still overcast and gray here at noon - temps are climbing very quickly now, and getting hot and very humid, but there is a lovely breeze blowing that cools momentarily. I rather like it. Reminds me of the Coast back home. Only thing missing is the surge of the surf and the smell of kelp and the ocean! (Oh, what I'd give . . .)

Uh-hum! Well, anyway. . .I wouldn't be surprised if we get more storms and rain tonight. The forecast gave us chances for thunderstorms through Saturday.

We haven't had rain for ~ three weeks, but sprinkles are possible on Sunday. I'll be coming out to Kansas at the end of September, and am hoping for dry weather then! It seems to rain on us every year, though. Ah well, it's good for the plants, just not good for us race cars. :-)

We may get rain tomorrow on my hubby's birthday. If we do, I will go outside and dance around in it-in my birthday suit. Happy Birthday Sweetie!

triple b, quite a picture in my mind! Since it's not your birthday... it's his b-day gift? heh heh.

We had a lovely drenching rain this morning about 10:00, looks to be clearing off now. HERE COME THE WEEDS!

It rained here yesterday off and on. It was the first time I haven't had to water flowerbeds in ages. Unfortunately, it rained on me while I was racing and I drove like crap (not the rain's fault, though :-)). Ah well, I would not have been gardening yesterday anyway. I usually wimp out when it's raining.

    what were you racing?

triple b, I race a Miata aka MX-5 in "autocross". I have been on medical hiatus this season (still not allowed to change tires), but can do most garden tasks (except large-shovel digging) if I am careful. This week's project is to plant creeping phlox around my small patio. Now, there is no rain in sight, but most of the rest of the US is baking! Hopefully folks won't lose too many plants.

    You drive a MIATA MX-5?????!!!!!

Oh, that is my dream car! I kid you not!
A black Miata MX-5 convertable with camel color interior, and leather seats - loaded. I saw one at a car show, slid into the drivers seat and tried her on for size and got the approval of all the men standing around looking at her too. (hehehe). A little blonde-haired girl of about 7 yrs. slid in on the passenger side (I grew up calling that "shotgun"), and she smiled shyly at me. We sat there dreamily in silence for a moment. Her parents came and urged her to come out of there because she should not be sitting in that car, but I told her/them, "We blondes know what we like, and we know we look good in black." Then the little girl grinned really big and snuggled down into the seat, rubbing the soft leather and taking it all in. Ah, if a car can be heaven...

    POST A PICTURE!!!!!PLEASE!

Oh gosh, mine's just an older commuter, not one of the spiffy newer ones. I do love it, though. :-) The weather was beautiful today (mid-70's). I went to Flower World after work and comfortably put 28 plants of Thrift (aka Sea Pinks) in the trunk (changed my mind on the Creeping Phlox). The beds are now tilled and soaker hose buried. Tomorrow I'll compost/plant and Thursday I'll mulch. BTW, I can fit five big bags of mulch (2 cf?) in the car!

    ScarletMX5,
Make your car black and a convertable and that's my car!
Love your little "Scarlet". Her's Perty!

We have a cold front moving in sometime in the next two days and we are being promised some goodly amounts of rain. Yeah! Was 105 today with advisories to stay in out of the heat. The cats kept coming in and flopping down on the cool floor.

I have begun moving my roses from their former home in the rose garden, over to the back of my house next to the patio.
The soil is deeper and better there and it will be easier for me to keep them watered there, esp. in this drought, and who knows how long it will continue. I only hope my well does not run dry. Ugh. It will be nice to be able to just sit in the shade of the patio and watch them bloom. Hope I can get them all moved in time for the rain that is coming!

I plan on going to go to Lowe's this week to see what they have in their clearence items. Oh, boy! Looking for columnar junipers, mini-boxwoods or yews, and evergreen trees and/or shrubs that can take these dry conditions, but I will keep my eyes open for roses and perennials on sale, too.

Conditions are so bad here. I may lose the two ancient cedars out front, poor old dears.
