Can fig trees adapt?

I saw a fig on my "Alma" beginning to ripen last week. In the past, the main crop didn't start ripening until at least last August. Now I have several figs ripening. It looks like a bumper crop this year! This is the main crop. The makes me wonder if figs that need a long, hot summer (preferably a California valley) can adapt to locations where the summer is a little shorter. God bless.
