Some of the leaves on the trees here are starting to change color. Monday night's low temp is forcasted for only 2 degrees! I hope that frost is a while away though since I still have some oriental lilies that haven't bloomed yet.
I have relatives in Sasktachewan, and some areas near Saskatoon have already had a killing frost (and right after numerous inches of rain that came last week).

It's the same story here in central Manitoba. We haven't had a frost warning yet, but it feels cold enough for it to happen anytime. I'm feeling cheated. Marie

Northwestern Ontario has had some cool weather for the past week too. There was a touch of f**** in some of the outlying areas of Thunder Bay but it hasn't gotten quite that cold yet here. I think the lowest was +5° one evening. But it really hasn't seemed to be much of a summer. We didn't have the heat you all had in June and July - we got cool rainy weather. Then we had about a month of mosquito season - hard to get out and accomplish something with thousands of mosquitoes competing for your blood!

I start back to work this morning. I feel cheated too!

Some of my annuals that I start from seed, still haven't even budded! It's been a weird year that's for sure. My rose bush is just starting to open 1 of 2 buds, and my shasta daisy's didn't open till beginning of Aug.

Similar to the south of you as well- our city forester persists in calling the trees "sun scorched"- yeah, right, all the young trees are red or yellow, and the lower leaves on the old ones are turning. July was so hot, but no f words at least so far.

I hasn't really been nice here since the last day of Big Valley Jamboree on Aug 5th in Camrose. Poured rain like crazy on the last nite and right now, it's raining and cold. Some of my begonias are full of powdery mildew and look like caa caa and the snail population has exploded. On the other hand, my lawn has never looked better. Looks like good weather to clean out the Greenhouse.

I do hope too, that things are turning around!...Thursday's prediction is 24C. I'm supposed to extract
some honey, but I need about 27C. I'm sure, this has slowed the bee's flying time, this means less honey!

I think every summer goes by too quickly. This one definately felt cooler then most. We dont have one day with even a +20 prediction in the next week. I am torn between wanting cloud cover at night so it doesnt freeze to wanting just a few more warm sunny days even if frost happens.I feel rather grumpy in zone brrr...savona

Hopefully this cold front will get the heck out of Alberta and will be blessed with a long Indian Summer. I'm not ready to throw in the trowel.

F**** on the roof this morning. (The husband just told me it's a hard frost on the windshield of the car, the kind you can barely scratch with your nail...) Not a cloud in the sky & a big beautiful moon just setting behind the mountains. I'm hoping for a warm September too, we are heading north on holidays again & I'm not as cold hardy as I used to be...

definately hard frost here lastnight, thankfully no plants seem to have suffered severly.
The aphids are HORRID right now. I'm spraying my tea rose twice a day right now. Hoping they don't eat the single bloom I have on it b4 it opens.

Wildie, you most likely just got a light frost the other night.....

Hard Frost is a frost where both the air and the soil has dropped below freezing. Many plants can survive a light frost but cannot survive a hard frost.

Tomatoes and tropicals, thats a different story, full moon, clear skies, watch out! I've been covering my toms for a couple of nights now.

We had a light frost a few nights ago too. I covered tomatoes, cukes, etc., but the marigolds are still fine, so no damage from it. Today it's absolutely beautiful out, and wouldn't you know it, I started back to work on Tuesday so I'm missing it!

I am not ready to throw in the trowel yet either... but it sure did feel like autumn for a while there. Last night we popped stuff on the BBQ again and it actually felt like summer again. Today is even better and yup, gonna fire up the BBQ again! Squeezing every last drop outta summer and fingers crossed for a loooooong Indian Summer!

U're right it wasn't that hard, it just seemed like it was harder than it was... At 9:30 the grass was still whitish, and all my perennials leaves were cool to touch.... today warmed up nicely, And my rose bloom opened!!!! The lady at the nursery recommended this one and she was right the fragrance is amazing!!! (It's a Fragrant Memory tea rose)

Down here in northern Minnesota it has gotten cooler. June was blazing hot and July was warm, and then August kind of petered out on us... cool with scant rainfall.

Temps have already reached 4*C in my locale and Embarrass, Minnesota has already seen -2*C and thanks to the combination of dryness and cool temperatures, many trees are changing very early and some are so stressed, they're already dropping leaves.

Somewhere in my mind, that tingling intuition has come back as it does every year, making me think we're going to have a "harsh" winter... but somehow I feel it'll likely be another warm, dry winter followed by a cold, cruddy spring, and a hot, dry summer.. I want normal back!
