I just received an unplanned for lily! I think it is a Martagon. It has unusual looking foliage. The leaves are wide and clustered in a whorl around the stem about 10" apart. During the summer I noticed it in a neighbor's yard and asked her what it was. She didn't know and said she didn't really like it. Today she dug it up and brought it to me!
Now if it is a martagon I've read that they don't like to be moved so I want to put in the right place. I wasn't prepared so haven't a site in mind. I've read they can tolerate some shade, but how much? Probably need great drainage? My main perennial bed is heavy clay that seems to be very detrimental to lilies.
I'm going to spend the rest of the day roaming around the yard trying to find a home for this lily!
Any advice? I don't imagine I could just put it in a pot and sink it in the garden for now?
