I love all daylilies but I keep going back to the purples as favourites. The one I just look at and sigh is 'Always Afternoon', it is a beautiful flower but I also love the height and flower size... it's just perfect to me for some reason.

I also love 'Yazoo Wild Violet' and 'Summer Wine'. Summer Wine multiplies well and has the longest bloom period in my garden. First to start and last to finish by weeks.

I have one called 'Dramatic Apricot Ruffles'. It is very long blooming, starts July and just finished, and is non stop flowering. The bright apricot colour really stands out in the garden. Another one I like is 'Joan Senior', an almost pure white. I do have 'Little Grapette' and I really like it. It is also very long blooming in my garden. Marg

I love any daylily that blooms for me, but my absolute favourite (and the one I would never be without) is Hemerocallis lilioasphodelus (aka H. flava, aka the lemon daylily). It's a species...absolutely pest free, as far as I can tell, blooms prolifically and EARLY, and has the most enticing scent. I love burying my nose in the flowers! Plus, this shade of yellow goes with anything. (Forgive the spent flowers...I took the photo in a hurry before the mosquitoes got all my blood, and I didn't take the time to deadhead.)

I like all my daylilies, though, as posted before, i'm still iffy on "Destined to See". The one that puts on the best show for me is "El Desperado" (yellow, maroon throat). "Silent Sentry" (purple, yellow throat) is pretty, but doesn't always have multiple blooms. I really love my new one, "Little Business" - red with a yellow/green throat. And the new "Peach Stella" is pretty too. Like i said, i love them all!

Well, I dont know if you all would consider that I am "far north" but when it comes to daylilies.....that grow from Florida north to ?????? then I guess I am . I am in S.W. Ontario and have only just really discovered daylilies but I am in LOVE!!!!!!!! big time.

I dont think I have found another flower or plant that has so enamoured me as the daylily. I am partial to the spidery types but wont overlook the round and ruffled if they are really pretty. I am also finding myself drawn to the older cultivars...not so much bling bling but lovely colors and shapes and hardiness.

I am looking forward to next spring and summer when I hope to see blooms on some of the 450 seedlings I grew from seed last winter.

Picking a favorite is soooo hard to do. I tend to like the larger flowers, because I garden on a few acres, small flowers tend to look lost in large beds. I also find that I gravitate more to the shape of the flower, so spiders, ufo's and ruffles catch my eye more. Colours are less important, but I, personally do prefer daylilies that have more than one colour in them, preferrably three or more colours.

My best performers this year were hands down, 'Open Hearth' and 'Matt'. Each of them must have had about 100 flowers, which I think is pretty good for third year plants. Last year 'Red Ribbons' was spectacular, but this year the flowers were much smaller and the petals didn't curl as well, probably due to lack of rain. 'Ice Carnival' has the most beautiful almost white flowers, but is stingy with them. I got quite a few new ones this spring, and my "new" favorites were, 'Parade of Peacocks' and 'Lake Norman Spider'. Hopefully the ones that didn't bloom this year will put on a good show next year.

Yup! 450 seedlings .......took almost all summer to get them planted....digging this clay here is a treat!!!!

Hope to have at least that many more to plant out next summer but sure would like to have found a rototiller by then. Digging by hand is for the birds!!!!!

OOOOOOh! Lake Norman Spider is on my want list this year but then so are many others including many of Ned Robert's intro's a great spider hybridizer and at the whole other spectrum .....Curt Hanson's beauties. I just got Escalating Dichotomies......which is very pretty.

If you are interested maybe we can work out a trade in the spring. I have about 170 different named cultivars so far but am always looking for others .LOL !!!! How about you?

I am with Signet. All daylilies I love. I have a lot of named daylilies and find that each of them is special in its own way. Destined to See bloomed for a long time but Exotic Echo bloomed the longest here in my yard. I love the Siloam series and have many of those. Spiders and daylilies with huge flowers are also favorites. Daylilies that have ruffled edges and eye zones are also to be desired here in my yard. I have a few doubles and have placed them here and there in the yard. I am with Laurie on the daylilies with multiple colors...they catch your eye. Ones like Frans Hals where three petals are different than the other three petals also strike my fancy.

I purchased about 70 new ones for my yard this year and only have a few left to plant into the flowerbeds now. Can hardly wait for about 3 years from now when all of those will be in full bloom in summer.

I have to admit, that I'm already looking at lists for next spring! I'm also hoping that I'll be able to harvest some seed pods. That is, whenever they decide to finally ripen..........they do take their own sweet time! So I hope to have a few seedlings to play with for next year too. Mind you, it won't be anywhere close to your numbers though!!lol

450 seedlings Signet. Wow. My ordering "alot" will never compare to your yard.
I must confess that I have been checking out different sites already. That is why I asked for everyones input. There are way too many varieties to even begin to narrow it down. Plus I know some are hardier and better performers than others. And besides pictures do not do most flowers justice.
Keep the favorite lists coming.
