I love ornamental corn Jan, it's so pretty. Harvest it much later than you would sweet corn, when the husks are dry you can peek to see if the kernels are hard too. Frost won't hurt it unless it's not ripe, in which case you ran out of time anyway ;0)

I have used it in the past in Thanksgiving wreaths and centrepieces. Not that I am crafty like some here, but I made a nice centrepiece last year with dried rosehips, fall leaves, and a ring of ornamental corn, around a big candle. Held it together with wire and a glue gun. You can probably leave the husks on and bend them back, which looks nice too unless they break off.

Don't know if birds eat it, seems a little hard but squirrels probably wouldn't say no. What colours do you have? Do you know yet?

Depending on the size of your cobs, you could use them to make dreadlocks on a jack-o-lantern. (giggle)

Now here's an idea that I just love - edible birdhouses. I imagine all is glued onto a wooden birdhouse.

Should I be worried about my eating type corn and frost? The forecast for tonight is for -3. We have just eaten our first cobs this past week. Should I be out there picking it now?

Northspruce thanks for the harvest imfo & no idea what colors I have. Thanksgiving wreaths, dreadlocks on a jack-o-lanterns & edible birdhouses great ideas. I always do the Halloween yard for the kids & feed the birds year round.. Just hope I've got some nice ripe ones, sounds like we might get a touch of frost..
