Caring for Fall Mums

I've been searching for info on fall mums and all I can find is websites that assume they're perennials.

The ones I bought say they're annuals. Is that right? I'm thinking there's two types?

I assume I deadhead them like all my other annuals, but we all know what assuming does. I've never had them before. How cold can it get before they're done?

Also, in zone 3, about how long should I have blooms? End of October? Longer if it doesn't snow on them?

As usual.......Thanks!
