Zone 6 plant now or spring?

Hi I am in Ny about hour north of NYC zone 6. I just purchased a small Hardy Chicago (about 1foot tall) from a big box store. I would like to plant it in the ground, but don't know if i should do it now or wait till spring. I have a unheated shed where i can keep till spring.. Thank you

It Can die in the shed,but will not die in ground if you protect the tree.
Circle with chicken wire fill with dry leaves and ,cover with small tarp so rain does not wet the leaves.
It will be alive and ready to grow next Spring!

Thank you I thought shed would be safe, will plant ths weekend.

I have 4 baby fig plants which I received in early June this year.
They are in containers.
Since they are small, I will move them indoor soon.

The shed is not safe for fig tree as the tree needs to
be protected for roots and branches.
