I would plant them in pots and sink the pots into the ground to the rims on first of those mild days. Then I"d give them a real good coat of mulch just leaving a bit of the plant showing. That way they may have time to make good roots before the ground is completely frozen and they will have a little time to aclimatize.

I really think that's the best you can do at this late date, unless you want to grow them inside all winter.

thats what i'm debating...i really dont know if we will have enough good weather for them to accomplish anything outside or not..
i know the ones i had outside in pots already clearly responded to the frosts we had before this big freeze--tightening rosettes, some species/varieties dried up outermost leaves, etc, so i'm not sure if they'd be making roots at this time or not?
i may put the pots out on those mild days, and see how cold nights will be, if its more than a few below at first i may bring them in, until it looks like they are hardened at least, and if they dont develop enough before serious cold, i may have to keep them in...
if they were local stuff, i'd take my chances, but they were a gift from far away, hate to waste them...lol
