My guess is a muhly grass, Muhlenbergia of which there are 5 species in Alberta - no idea how many in Saskatchewan.
Got to go to the gym now, but will try a bit more ID'ing later.

Thanks Lori. I appreciate the effort. You're right, the grass world is huge (and confusing).

A few hours with nothing to do this morning except to lounge in the land of Google led me to an on-line forage grass identification guide (which should be very helpful to me in the future if I keep roaming thru roadside ditches). Turns out this find is Dactylis glomerata, or Orchard Grass. Now I need to find a large stand of it to harvest.

Sigh... I'm now looking at there perennial seed again... Did you have to post a seed sale.. and no I can't stick to the sale items. ;)
