Fig Ripening Update

Hi,i have 2 Sal's one is too young to produce, 1 Celeste, 1 Chicago Hardy and 1 unknown that was given to me from Bari Italy also to young but growing so fast since Jan of 06 that the 10 or so figs just drop off 1 by 1. I have my adults in half whiskey barrels the others in very large plastic pots. Also 1 i put in the garden in the dirt. The soil i use in the planters is strictly Miracle grow planters mix and i feed them miracle grow every 2 to 3 weeks but a mild dose not the full dose. My 1 Sal and 1 Celeste are the eldest being 3 years old the rest are 2 and 1 year olds. Now mind you i look at them everyday its like an addiction for me as i grew up on south side of Chicago and being italian i ate them by my relatives as a kid. Its in me this addiction and happy to see it in others on this forum. My one regret is i have no type of camera to post the pictures that i would like to share. My so called Celeste that i bought years ago looks like leaves i have seen on many sites look just like mine except the figs are gigantic,i have seen different types but this particular tree is unusual in that the figs stood green for a good 3 months we had a early spring. But last year i ate only several medium size figs off this tree, this year up till today my daighter and i have had 3 BUT there not big but huge at least the size of a plum a big pulm and compared to my Sal's and Chicago Hardy they like melt in your mouth with hardly any chewing its hard to describe that. My Sal's tree and just 1 tree has given me 120 yes 120 figs i have written them down day by day that we have eaten them in my journal, my Chicago Hardy has gien me 38 figs so far and this tree is 2 years old. Taste wise my daughter and i agree that Celeste is number 1 followed by Chicago Hadry then Sal's. Sal's is producing a amount of figs for its size like i have never expected. My tree's are about 5 to 6 ft tall and have a good spread on them as well. The Celeste i have had to tie the branches with cloth so they hold up. I was scared i would not get any figs from it until recently some strted turning a pale green and got lighter in color then they just swelled like crazy and started to turn purple.I was amazed at there size, there are a good 50 to 60 on this tree but only about 10 are swelling like this right now the others are medium and very green.Next year i will make some bread and cookies like i always dreamed of. Also will get a camera to post next year, our high is only going to be 55 Tueseday and stay cold this week ,darn a lousy time to come soon oh well its been fun this year. Happy fig eating!
