I planted some last fall and they never came up this year evem thought we had what amounted to a zone 5 winter. I'm sure others here have had better luck with them, though.

I've never heard of anyone overwintering them successfully. Many years ago, I bought some and planted them out in spring, and meant to dig up in fall like a gladiolus but I forgot - so that was the end of them. They did grow and bloom that year but if I recall they bloomed very late, perhaps you could start them off early. Beautiful flowers, I wish they were hardier for us.

Why don't you plant them in a pot and then each fall bring the pot and all inside just as you do for glads, dahlias, begonias, callas and cannas? Then the following spring just water the pot and away you go again.

Years ago when I was just starting with perennials/bulbs I bought anemones and had the same result as Marcia. No anemones made it through our winter.

I have overwintered anemones for several years. I plant in pots early spring........usually march or April. I set the pot outside when the danger of frost is over. In the fall I empty the pot and store the bulbs either in the empty pot or in a brown paper bag.

This year I forgot about them and they didn't get planted till June......I had flowers in Aug.

I wouldn't try overwintering outdoors.
