Relocating mature fig trees

19 years ago

I have a couple Brown Turkey figs that need to be moved. They are no longer getting enough sun because of some nearby trees that have grown quite large. The figs have been in the ground for about 7 years. Can I dig them up? If so when and should I cut back most of the above ground growth first?
