I noticed that the handle of one small leaf near the bottom became half-attached to the stem. I pulled it and it went off easily. I wonder if this is a warning signal. Remember my temperature is 40 to 60 F.

Shic, my crotons are kept in a very cool room. At night it drops low..You may lose leaves, but mostly likely it's due to change of environment, especially in winter. Remember the plants originally are shipped from Fl where it's not only warm, but humid and sunny. Don't worry about losing a leaf or 10 leaves, they'll grow in as soon as spring comes..Toni

I suspect they are able to deal with lower than 60 F. Mine is doing very well 45 Â 65 F. It did not drop a second leaf. The leaves are so large and colorful, that they look like painted.

I had one of the crotons in the photo and mine seemed to lose its leaves till there were none left to lose. I dont know if it is that certain species of croton, but i found that one harder to keep than the one i have now. I just keep it where there is a lot of light and it does very well, its also in temp. over 60.
