Here's the other side. The plants are bone dry, which is probably why they are still alive. If you look at the trunk, Sedona has some new growth coming on.
Can I start coleus from a leaf like African violets? Or do I need to take a branch/stem cutting?
I have some grow lights, so I'll keep them inside for awhile at least until it stops frosting at night.

Hi Lennie. You can make cuttings of coleus using stem/tip cuttings, I don't think they work with just a leaf like a begonia would.

If those were my cuttings....I wouldn't take anything off of Sedona. It will grow good when things warm up, but it's been set back, either by the lack of water or cold. My experience has been if it were the cold then the cutting rots before it can set roots. Alligator tears looks like it would give more though.

Once sedona is growing well you could make new plants, but they will be behind, with rooting, then growing in soil, then hardening off, before they will be of use in your yard this summer.

Thanks, especially for the hint about waiting longer to take cuttings. Sedona has new growth in every axil, so even though it looks sad right now, it should pull though, but be behind as you said.
I definitely want to take cuttings, but I'll wait till the new growth is much bigger.
