The pics with the wood floors are in your new home? How about a deep blue area rug for under the dining set, picking up the blue in your artwork.

I would leave woodwork alone since it is a rental. If you can paint the walls, go with a creamy color to compliment the leather seating. But the thing I would do is add a cream area rug like you had in your previous home which should cut some of the wood that is dominating the room and taking on more of a country feel...you could even do a bold modern pattern to tie into all of your accessories. But a rug should really make a huge difference. Good luck.

An area rug covering most of the dining room floor space would help define the area. You have two suggestions for darker colors of blue, and one for cream. Both of these colors are in your artwork. If you have bright lighting for nighttime, a darker color rug will not seem as "heavy."

For some reason, I do not see a photo of a cabinet. I do see the pretty carved wood room divider.

I would hesitate to put draperies above a radiator. Can you get a pretty radiator cover?

please get a rug....otherwise those metal chair rails are gonna mark up the wood floors....your landlord will not be happy

for the cabinet you could get a piece of foam core at an art supply store, have it cut to fit, and cover it with anything you want--paint, wallpaper, fabric....or you could just tack something to the back of the cabinet....or use peel and stick velcro to attach something

i love your new house, but your furniture looked more at home in your old apartment, if you know what i mean...i'd look for an oriental rug at an auction, put slipcovers on the chairs and a cloth on the table to soften the look and cover the metal legs

if you have enough room, you could put a narrow console table under the window with lots of plants

You could put some inserts into the carved recessed bit of the divider - cover a canvas frame or stiff foam board, all cut to exact size, with a very pale green (like the color of the glass table top) material or cream. Or how about hanging a drape panels, from ceiling to floor, on this side of the divider - ? Make it vanish and it will have more of the feel of your former dining room. And yes - light rug - the bigger the better.

I agree a rug would help warm it up, your pic on the back wall has some nice colors in it and yes the blue in that pic would be nice..But you need to get rid of a couple chairs.That would open it up quite a bit.You only had 4 chairs around the table before.Why use 6 now?The space looks smaller than your previous home.

You're buying an area rug now, so remember, under a dining table it needs to be 4 feet larger than the table. Can't see the light fixture, but you could turn the table so only one chair gets pulled out on the rad end of it. Will that still allow for centering under the light, or is that not even an option anyway? Have you tried hanging your big art piece over that opening between the rooms? Maybe you could drape the other side. You could use the foam core idea to stencil a "trompe l'oeil" bookshelf with books on it in the recess. Search for "trompe l'oeil stencil."

This table is very nice, love the style of the leather chairs!! and yes a rug would anchor the space, your art work are a nice scale as well as very colorful...
