It sure looks like it. Fanick's Blue Giant is an excellent fig. If Ray Diaz is out there, could you add to this as well?

Looks VERY similar if not identical. Wouldn't be hard for them to get that variety through various sources. I spoke to one of the owners sons at Fanick's and he told me that particular fig tree was given to him from a friend from Europe long time ago. He didn't know the gentlemans name or what country. I did get a chance to visit Fannicks and see the original from which they propagate from and got to taste one. It's a very large fig with above average flavor, very sweet but not very rich. Definitely not Brown Turkey.

I love Fanick's! We have been buying from them for five years. We just bought three fruit trees from them, including a Blue Giant. This tree was recommended when we asked which variety was best. It was my understanding, from something I was told a couple of years ago, that his was a variety that Fanick's had developed for this area especially. They have a beautiful nursery set in a very natural environment and a knowledgeable and helpful staff. Visit them soon.

I got one given to me last year by a neighbor of Fanick's son in San Antonio. I have hot had the best luck with figs, but this one actually survived a very wonky season last year, culminating in a super hard freeze in early Spring. Looks like it made it after a foot of leaves I put at the base...is lush and happy looking right now. I wonder if anyone has experience with this particular cultivar and could tell me if there's anything special I can do to make it thrive and produce as soon as possible. Not sure about the years til that happens either. I heard it was the most delicious fig there was. Cannot wait for it to take off!
