My guess, the glass has been tumbled so that all the sharp edges have been removed, it would probably look quite attractive in some applications. My concern would be that broken glass has been known to focus the rays of the sun and start fires.

I've seen glass used for designs in zen-type gardens. Blue glass used to make dry stream beds, etc. But never actually IN the garden. Not sure how it would fare as mulch. Or how you would work in the beds.

I don't think I'd want it in my beds, in fact I'm sure I wouldn't. I'd have to use an organic product that would break down and feed the soil. I guess I could see that glass used in well edged pathways though. Interesting!

the dirt would be my concern..in a week it would gather so much dirt just from the air, it would be ugly...and the heat build up would be another.....

Good points. I can see using it contained in a flower pot around a drought plant, but I'm afraid to use it between my stepping stones.

I want to do something really fun and playful, but I think I'll just stick with my plan to stain the concrete stepping stones a paprika color and use regular pea gravel around them.

I saw this stuff used in one of the landscaping shows on HGTV a week or so ago. I can't say that it appealed to me. Annette is right about the glass being tumbled to round off the sharp edges.

Annette - the thing about broken glass focusing the suns rays and starting fires sounds like an impossibly long shot to me. Has this really happened?

TM, I don't know if this has actually happened, I think it's one of the things that has been mentioned in B.C. forest commercials during fire season.

One of the local soil, stone, etc places has it for their drive. I have not been the in a while, I'll try to stop and check it out.

Would love to get the name of the company that advertised the glass. I feel these new "creations" are fun and there must be a great way to use it. I don't like too much of it but the idea of a spot or so of it might be fun. Maybe around the base of a small tree or in a sitting area where you would actually see it. It seems to be the new thing, as stated before, especially in the blues. I used both blue and green BEACH GLASS for several projects but it was way too expensive to use as a mulch or large area. Plus it was heavy which made the shipping costly.

Got photos of how you used it? I keep thinking of using plastic, shallow containers of different shapes to hold the glass and "sink" them around in the shower garden area to make an interesting colorful design. In moderation, of course! LOL

That way, the glass is contained and can't get mixed in. I could punch drainage holes in the containers.
