Hi! I'd bought a beautiful variegated one on ebay a number of years ago, but wasn't successful in overwintering it here in zone 4. Does anyone know where I might find another? Also, any tips for indoor overwintering would be appreciated. Thanks,
Hi Lynn, There are quite a few varigated varieties. Some of the hardiest are Magellanica Tricolour, Magellanica Versicolour, Magellancia Enstone, also Herb de Jacques, Tom West these are all upright growers.
Indoor overwintering see FAQ at top of Forum. If you need more info, please come back - Kath:)
Looks like Magellanica 'Tricolour', it is hardy, but whether it is hardy to zone 3 I wouldn't like to say. If you live in frost prone areas, don't cut it back in the Autumn, before frosts begin cover at soil level with at least 6 inches of mulch. - Kath:)
I would think that Zone 3 is being a little optimistic, but......... Don't forget to take some cuttings and over winter them indoors or in a frost free area. IanS.
I had one for several years called "Island Sunset" (I think).Kept it in a pot and brought it in for winter. Inside they should be cool eg in a porch. I have a greenhouse attached to the house which is really handy(well that's why I got it) and the fuchsias stay at the cool end. Maybe 55*F or less. Not much water. The leaves may fall off. Once the last flower is gone I prune them quite hard.Late January they start leafing out.I keep nipping them back because they get leggy. Actually have just put mine outside this weekend. They tend to get whitefly inside.
