I worked with Al on a total gut rehab of my three level row house in Downtown Oakland. Al was an integral part of the team through every phase of the project from pre-construction design, construction management, and final inspections. Al was very responsive to our questions/needs and he felt more like a partner then a hired trade. Also, Al's calm persona came in handy and helped defuse any disputes that came up with our contractor. All around, Al was a pleasure to work with and his work speaks for it self! I can't wait to work on my next project with US Drafters.

The staff at Ohashi Design Studio helped me design my kitchen/living space. I wanted to open up our galley kitchen to be able to see our incredible view from the kitchen. They came up with a design I never imagined could work so well. Rather than just remove a wall, they moved the kitchen, changed it to a more functional shape and not only opened up the view, but made the living space feel like we were outside. I have been especially impressed with their level of service. They listened to my dreams and goals and turned it into a reality beyond what I'd hoped for. They were available anytime I needed guidance during construction and made sure the project was built down to the finest details. They helped me find a contractor and oversaw the bidding process. They helped pick out all the materials and finishes, even the paint color. I can't say enough about their level of expertise and professionalism. I worked with Dave and Alan.

It has always been a pleasure working with the entire TRG team. They assemble professional drawings and go the extra mile to create custom designs with each client. The thought put into every detail makes for a very special finished project, which is something every contractor should appreciate. We are looking forward to showcasing a few of our current projects soon! -Matt

Eugene Sakai stood out far above the pack of the 5 Architectural firms that we investigated to do our total house construction. He was simply the best to deal with, very professional, on time, and took a personal interest in the project, and within budget. We moved in 2 years ago and still love him and the contractor, C.W. Wright in San Carlos. We are pleased to show the house through Eugene Sakai at any time.
Steve Swearengen, AIA | the Architects office
Architects, Architecture Firms, & Building Designers in San Francisco
Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsJuly 8, 2014
Steve Swearengen is one of the best architects I know. As a business consultant I've worked with hundreds of architects over the years. Steve understands construction better than most and certainly works well with contractors and clients to get their dreams fulfilled. I highly recommend him to any contractor or homeowner who wants it a great job at a reasonable price.
John Lum Architecture, Inc. AIA

Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsApril 3, 2011
We used John Lum Architecture for the complete remodel of ~1000 sq ft in San Francisco. John and team were fantastic to work with. Very creative yet good at listening to our thoughts and integrating our ideas. They understand how to both design a gorgeous contemporary space while still keeping it comfortable and livable. We depended on them with a lot of design detail recommendations such as fixtures, paint, tiles and they always had great suggestions that made the process much simpler and easy to manage. They are very professional, extremely responsive and timely. There were no surprises during the entire process including on deadlines and budgets. I would strongly recommend them.
Architect Andrew Morrall

We transformed our kitchen and put a major 3 story addition with a roof deck at the back of our Victorian House in the Haight. Andy was the Architect and was able to take a very challenging existing kitchen with a narrow floor plan, with many jogs and angles and create a very cohesive design. The inherent narrowness and angles of the space were turned around and actually made design features of the space. With very little wall changes, Andy was able to redesign the Kitchen Cabinets and reconfigure the sink and appliances to create an entirely new look. The lighting, soffits and cabinet details were all well thought out and blend seamlessly with the existing house. The major 3 story addition also proved challenging. Andy's thorough knowledge of the San Francisco Planning Code allowed us to attain a rear yard variance. The addition was very well detailed, extensive waterproofing details were included for the exterior flashing and for the roof deck. We were able to achieve all our goals, and then some with Andy as our Architect. We highly recommend him.
Klopf Architecture
Architects, Architecture Firms, & Building Designers in San Francisco
Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsFebruary 23, 2014
My HOA hired Klopf Architecture to design new fences, front gates, lighting and paint color plans for our condominiums. They were designed in 1963 by Quincy and Jones and built in 1964 by Eichler Homes. Replacements in the 1990s did not serve the mid-century aesthetic well -- but owners did not want to return to the light-inhibiting original thin-line panel fences and gates. The Klopf team produced three outstanding options. The one we selected includes brilliant design features like frosted glass doors with 1/4-in spaces between fence boards to allow light in along with clear glass doors for the pool area with 1/2-in spaces between boards surrounding it. The overall design and color plan is clean and elegant. John Klopf and his team could not have been more friendly and flexible throughout. We look forward to implementing this design over the next few years.

Some of the many things I appreciate about David Marlatt, my architect on a large and fairly complex home project: He is imaginative, personable, calm, prompt, works extremely well with contractors and vendors, delivers designs / changes promptly. Not only an excellent sense of design architecturally, but also for interiors, fixtures, etc. Thorough practical knowledge base and expertise in dealing with the multitude of City / regulatory issues. Everything - design, budgets, timing, etc - is thought through carefully, and from many angles. Thoroughly receptive to client preferences, but will also be directive when needed. As his client, I'm am never in doubt that my interests are his highest priority. Plans and designs are created, stored and presented electronically - in 3D renderings as well as floor plans. Easy for those of us who are 3D-challenged to follow. In my view, outstanding in all areas. I can confidently recommend David without reservation.
Mark Brand Architecture
Architects, Architecture Firms, & Building Designers in San Francisco
Average rating: 4 out of 5 starsJanuary 19, 2013
we worked with Mark Brand Architecture for the remodel of our house. It was a complete remodel with using different colors of stucco instead of the original wood siding. This gave the house a complete modern look. Mark suggested to use of huge windows which was only possible with using some railings. This was a smart idea. It brings the woodsy scenery inside and feels like we are living in a tree house. The inside of the house was completely gutted, some walls pulled down. Again the feeling is very modern but the materials used make it very warm. There are also a lot of details which make the house more pleasant to live in. The result is not only stunning but we love living in it.
