I got some of those this fall too. They look like a mosquito bite, itch like a chigger, but they're in places that chiggers don't bite, like on the side of my neck...uh-oh, maybe...it...was...a...a...VAMPIRE!!! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA

What you've got are bites from the straw itch mite...my sis was diagnosed at the dr last year as she had them all over...

Here is a link that might be useful: straw itch mite

yuck, benadryl to the recuse! Or maybe hydrocortosone?

Hey, straw mite itch may be the answer to my question! The area I was planting has been mulched deeply with straw. Makes sense, especially the part about bites appearing over a period of time.

Maybe that is what they call "no-see um's" here? I got nailed by a wasp yesterday on the shoulder. OUCH!

Maybe that Straw Itch Mite is what got me this spring?! I was putting down straw in the garden that came straight out of the barn (bales). Whatever it was, it was miserable stuff! I used hydrocortisone for two weeks to get rid of it.

Hey, that could have been mine too. I have deep straw in my chicken coop and I had been out there a couple days ago moving it around and filling up the nest boxes. Guess it's time for another dash of Sevin dust. Cheryl

Pick up a little tube of Afterbite Xtra - it really works. I picked up a potted rose bush that was home to some fire ants and didn't realize until they had covered my hand. I had seven bad bites and after treating with the Afterbite, I just ended up with one tiny blister, and no pain. I've used it on mosquito bites too, and no itch. The active ingredient is ammonia.
