wilting greens?

Last winter I grew beets, lettuce, carrots, garlic, cabbage, kale (to name a few) and all of those things sailed through the entire winter with no problems. This year I am seeing massive wilts of the leaves of ALL of the afore-mentioned plants, even the carrots. Not all at once, and not necessarily when it's dry, or after a hard freeze, and it doesn't look like a disease. I can't figure this out. I've started to suspect acid rain, especially since we've had so little rain and then so much of it when it does come down. I wondered whether maybe all that pollution was just hanging around in the sky waiting to be dropped down on my garden, and then when it did, it poisoned my plants? Has anybody else noticed anything like this? Any suggestions or advice to offer? I was so enjoying collards, broccoli, kale, beet greens, lettuce, and chard. And now there is nothing. I can eat the carrots but most of the beet roots are too soft already to be any good.

Help!!

I think we dipped lower to 15 that one night than we did last year. I think that is what did mine in and the church's look wilty too. But I did notice today that the leaves newly emerging closest to the ground look fine. I think yours will revive.

Nope, Glynis, I got frustrated the night before I posted and pulled almost everything out and threw it all into the compost pile. So unfortunately nothing will be coming back from the ground! Ordinarily I'm more patient, but I was just feeling down and out about it, and decided there was nothing that could be done. In case it was a disease, I thought I'd better get everything out. If I can find time this weekend I plan to throw down some more seeds. Otherwise I guess I'll just wait until spring.

Oh, Debbie! My veg are looking so good after a few days of warmer weather. I'm sorry you threw them out!!
Start more! You can always put a piece of plastic over the bed for a few days to heat the soil for them to germinate more quickly!!
