Kiwis really need well draining soil from what I understand. My MIL's family owned a Kiwi farm in South GA. That soil was on the sandy side, not so acidic and very well amended. The vines grow quite heavy, and require a very sturdy trellising system. I personally do not think they would be very appropriate for growing on a tree. Sort of like growing Ivy or Kudzu up trees. I am by no means an expert, but I do know these vines get really thick and I've seen thick vines pull trees down in wind.
