I have my rosemary planted on the West side of my house and I would be surprised if it got 6 hours of sun. It's down in a terraced area that is only about 20 feet wide and is flanked on either side by the house and by woods so it only receives sun during midday once the sun has cleared the roofline but before it passes the trees. I believe it's about 3 years old and seems happy and healthy. Perhaps if it received more sun it would be larger but it looks great. Rosemary isn't very expensive, so I say give it a try. You can always move it later if it doesn't perform well.

Loves hot sun. HD sells small ones for about a buck and they grow fast.

You can also grow it in a pot. I've had one 6 years in about a 14-inch pot. I made it into a topiary...one trunk with a ball on top. It's about 18 inches tall in total. It's blooming wonderfully right now. I love the smell when I water it and sometimes I even use a sprig or two in cooking. They can grow really large when planted in the ground.

I also have one on the west side of my house in a spot that has about 4-6 hrs of sun. It is doing fantastic! A neighbor has one on the south of his patio and it is not as big. Soil quality is key I am sure but I just thought that was interesting! They do great in pots but I have lost them in the past in cold weather - roots froze maybe?

Thanks for the responses. I will try two on the west and two on the south. I am no good with potted plants, inside or out.

I find rosemary is one of the easiest things to root and grow. Mine tolerates partial shade and drought and self-roots readily.
