Does anyone grow Aztec Lily, Sprekelia formosissima? How well does it grow in Georgia? How much and when does it bloom? Does it work well in cut flower arrangements?
I saved an old article by Jenks Farmer in Carolina Gardener (1999) in which he described an elaborate system he devised to try to grow Spreklia formosissima in a raised bed to try to mimic the dry conditions of the native soil where they grow. I never learned if it worked. I never tried it, hindered by the price of bulbs that might not persist here. He did mention that 'Orient Red' and 'Peru' were supposed to be reliable in South Carolina.
