Hi all. I think I actually asked this question last year when my paper white narcissus bulbs sprouted greenery but did not bloom. I can't find that I wrote the answer down anywhere though. They seem to be doing it again this year -- anyone know why this might be happening? They don't get alot of sun. Just morning and then filtered afternoon/evening. And out of laziness I also don't usually fertilize my bulbs although I think I originally planted most of my bulbs with some bone/blood meal. They are mulched and I believe the bulbs stay fairly cool even in summer. These did bloom the first year planted but haven't since.

And now about Hyacinths. I've never had a problem getting them to grow but when they bloom they always seem deformed compared to photos I see from retail growers. The florets on each flower head open sporadically on some giving them an uneven appearance and others appear stunted like the bulb got buried too deeply. I followed the planting depth instructions on the first batch. The next year after seeing this phenomenon I planted another group more shallowly and I still get the same results. They get plenty of sun but again not really any fertilizer. I have 5 different varieties and they all behave pretty much in this fashion and have done so for years. Is there anything I can do to improve them and help them actually look like all those full hyacinth blooms we see in the catalogs?
