Wallflowers & Lithoria
Has anyone planted wallflowers or lithodora? On impulse I bought a variegated wallflower, an apricot twist wallflower, and three Grace Ward lithodoras. I found a place for the lithodoras on the side of my house where we receive mostly morning sun, but I'm debating what to do with the wallflowers. Currently, I'm considering buying a couple more of the wallflowers and putting them in between several holly bushes that I have in my front yard just off the porch. However, I'd like to know if anyone can tell me how well wallflowers do in a drought. If they preform poorly, I might put violet lace lavender in between the holly bushes instead, since I have a spot for the two wallflowers that I bought and because I've had good luck with the French variety of lavender (knock on wood, the drought didn't seem to bother them at all!).
FYI - I'm trying to attract hummingbirds and butterflies, and I've heard that they love the wallflowers (although I know that butterflies also love lavender as well), so any input along those lines would also be appreciated!
Also, can anyone tell me how much the lithodoras will spread the first year? The spot that I have for them also has bulbs, so I'm a little worried that it will be too tight for them -- but if they're slow spreaders I can always lift the bulbs in the fall to give the lithodora more room.
Thanks!
