I planted three Grace Ward Lithodoras last year but I had ZERO luck with them. I think the problem may have been that they had wet feet where I put them, but I wouldn't have thought so to begin with, as that area is usually pretty dry. I had never seen them before, but they were so pretty at the garden center (how many times have we all gotten sucked in by THAT?) and I couldn't resist. They got full sun where I planted them, but they went quick, boy howdy. And, when I say they WENT, I mean, they turned BLACK. I have never seen anything go bad so quickly in my garden. They didn't spread at all.

What I have heard, from people who HAVE had success with them, is that they spread to about 18-24 inches or so...not too much, but that they tend to die back in the center some.

I probably won't try them again, but they ARE really beautiful with that true-blue color that's so hard to find. I hope you have good luck with them!

I picked up a small pot of Grace Ward Lithodora last year and planted it in the rock garden that gets morning and some early afternoon sun. I thought I lost it to the drought because I didn't give my rock garden much water early on when I should have and it looked completely dead by Mid-summer. However I cut it back and continued to water it for a while despite its appearance and it finally resprouted. It's only a fraction in size of its former self but it looks very healthy and I'm going to baby it some this year to help it get established this time. Maybe it will fare better once it gets a foothold.

I have had wallflower in a full sun garden. It's very pretty, sturdy and drought tolerant. Problem was it got woody with age, and didn't appreciate pruning (my experience, Bowles Mauve, may not be same for everyone). Third year, they needed replacing. Supposed to be easy to propagate and I have read that if you grow these, you should always try making new starts to replace plants as they mature.
