I have not dealt with them myself, so can't offer opinion.

I have ordered from them and I can recomend them They are legit. But I do think they are a little pricey for plants that small. This year I've ordered a few things from blue stone perennials and blooming bulb, both top 30 companies on Garden Watchdog. But mostly, I buy locally. I can get nice, big plants for a reasonable price.

Over 30 years I've bought two things from Wayside. They are a legit company and I had no complaints about what I bought or how they treated me.

I've made several orders and they are the real deal. They may be a little pricey on some items but what I ordered was about the same elsewhere.

Still, a good place.

Although it is in the fine print of the catalog, the plants are very small. 3 inch pots or so. I bought a japanese maple from them 6 years ago for 70$ plus shipping, it was under 1 ft high! Unless what your ordering is really rare, or exclusive to wayside, you will do better elsewhere.

I've ordered from Wayside 2 or 3 times, but always when they had extraordinary sales (when I got special codes from people on GW or straight from them). I've been happy with them. I can't recall exactly what I got from them as opposed to Bluestone Perennials (the only mail order people I've dealt with) but I know I got from Wayside, among other things: 2 The Fairy roses (on grafted roots, doing beautifully), blueberry bushes (1 died), Tamora and Heritage roses. The Austin roses are iffy for an organic gardener; Tamora died and Heritage loses its leaves every summer and looks bad but I leave it because the Heritage rose has got to be one of my all-time favorite flowers!

Anyway, just my experience. Wayside gets dissed a lot but I think they're okay.

Thanks guys! I may just pass and order from elsewhere. They were offering a mat forming Veronica (looked more like Bacopa in the pic) that the wife really liked.

My last two orders with them were disasters. Three very expensive shrubs were dead sticks upon arrival, they only had more dead sticks for replacement. Ordered a $50 one gal. shrub, they substituted a 4" pot. Same price they said.
Took a while to sort all of that out. I look elsewhere now.

I've done OK when I ordered from them - stuff I couldn\t get elsewhere, or when they had a rose special (and some of those are really good deals).

One warning: they are known to exaggerate the color effects in their pictures. Do not expect blue-leaved plants to be as blue as shown, etc.

i got 2 joseph's coats from them. they were decent price and very thick, sturdy dormant bare-roots, 3 or 4 big canes each, well-pruned. they've done great, started budding as soon as i put them in the ground.

most things, though, i agree, you can get locally for better prices on the same size plant.

I have ordered mostly roses from them and have had no problems. Butterfly rose being one of my favorites and can't seem to find it elsewhere. Almost all the roses and shrubs are sent as bareroot so you do have to saok 24 hours befroe planting or they will NOT survive. Haven't ordered perrenials from tehm as they do seem to be overpriced.
