I did that two years ago- I bought 8; 4 have survived and are now thriving. So it worked out to about $2 a rose- not bad! Of course, the $30 or so of soil amenders and the two days of work to prepare the new bed should be factored in too, I guess!

Including amendments it comes to $9.50 per survived rose. Still a good deal, considering joy, anticipation, and future return of investment, oohs and aahs of your neighbors, and multiple compliments of friends and family. Hopefully you are enjoying the fruits of your labor today.
I know when my UPS man, neigborhood joggers, or anyone makes comments about my flowers - it makes my day. I feel like a proud Mama :-).

Well, about the roses I bought (more then I knew what to do with, but I am only human, so I got greedy and overbought).
They were beyond thirsty. It looks like they were on a no-water diet for at least a month. I have planted them anyway. Even if they do not make it, I amended the soil well and created a nice planting space.
We will see what happens.

yup- it was a great deal (and I doubt that the total for the amenders was actually $30)! They look GREAT right now and I'm looking forward to a spectacular year!
