what is this??

During my vacations i stayed in a small hotel by the sea.The owner had a garden full of all sorts of plants.Most of them were very common..however i saw a pelargonium with red-purplish blooms;it seemed overall a normal pelargonium but what got my attention was its leaves.The plant had plain green leaves in some places and variegated leaves elsewhere.now,from what ive seen variegated plant tend to have all of their leaves this way.So i ask you oh knowledgable(!) geranium people,is it some element deficiency?viral?bugs? oh, and i post a photo of a leaf:
