I bought mine from Vintage Gardens online and it has done pretty well. I'd offer to give you a cutting but my plant had a pretty severe setback in this latest freeze this year (for the first time in several years), and there aren't many branches to take cuttings from right now.

Thanks for the info. How long have you had yours in the ground? How large was the shrub that you got from Vintage Gardens? Was it a specific variety of dichroa febrifuga? I saw a report somewhere about one called "Blue Sapphires" that was described as "a startling blue." I have so many questions -- sorry! Like how fast it grows, are the flowers as blue as I saw at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens (unreal!) is it tender here, when does it bloom... THANKS!!!

Found mine at Pikes several years ago, but it may have been a one time purchase. Check with a nearby HD, as I saw them at the Decatur locn(L'ville Hwy, near N Dekalb SC) several weeks ago.
They are a somewhat tender species (Industry rating Zone 8+)and often lose some foliage during the winter in Zone7, but recover and bloom in late spring/early summer.
Like their cousins, Hydrangea macs & serratas, the flower color is influenced by the acidity of the soil. For most intense blue, you will need a low pH.
Nurseries Caroliniana, N. Augusta,SC, offers a cultivar, 'Yamaguchi Hardy', that is said to be much more tolerant of cold weather. It is a selection of 'Yamaguchi Select', which is touted as developing a more full habit and large clusters of fruit(more flowers?).
