Give me some ideas!!

I have created a new bed in the front of my home. I want to plant "evergreens", something that wont die away in winter, but I dont want the 1970's look (boxie bushes etc). The bed faces south-southeast. When I go to the shop for plants, I just leave more confused than ever!! I have a window above the bed that is about 41/2 feet from the ground. The bed goes to the end of the house and at the corner of the house, I have made a circle. I can post a pic if anyone wants to see my creation!! ANY advise would be great!

Look at Abelia "Rose Creek" for some of the low bushes. Scroll down in this link to read about it and see a picture.

Take a look at Indian Hawthorne 'Eleanor Taber'; it's not loose and airy looking but also not boxy, unless you make it that way. Plant them unevenly in the bed, not lined up. Pink flowers in spring.

there is a new dwarf lorapetalum "Bill Wallace" (that would be nice in front of some of those Indian Hawthornes. Or the "Purple Haze" Lorapetalum is supposed to be 4' x 5' so you could do those under the window.
